Our thoughts on brand new streaming content, and where you can watch.
Carême
Keywords: French historical drama, espionage, risqué
Watch if you like: Marie Antoinette, The Great, The Bear
Jenni’s Rating: B-
Carême is a sumptuous new semi-biographical spy drama charting the rise of the world’s first celebrity chef. Set in Napoleonic-era France, it follows Antonin Carême (Benjamin Voisin), a culinary prodigy who ascends from humble origins to international fame. But his growing notoriety—and undeniable charm—make him an ideal pawn for politicians eager to exploit his access and influence.
This series is full of eye-candy: opulent sets, lavish costumes, impossibly attractive actors, and, of course, divine-looking food. The whole production gleams with decadence, swirling with political intrigue, rivalries, smoldering glances, and extravagant banquets where secrets are as plentiful as the silver platters being passed around. Sensuality is a tool of manipulation here, with haute cuisine and carnal pleasure both wielded by Carême to strategic effect. It’s Marie Antoinette by way of The Bear, with a dash of espionage for good measure.
All that said, the show may be an acquired taste for some. If you’re not a fan of steamy scenes, I’d recommend you sit this one out entirely. The premiere drags a bit, and its titular chef initially comes off as borderline too arrogant to root for. But once the show finds its rhythm in the second episode, it’s surprisingly addictive.

Yellowjackets - Season 3
Keywords: survival thriller, drama, puzzle box mystery
Watch if you like: Lost, Cruel Summer, The Wilds
Jess’s Rating: C+
When Yellowjackets premiered, it felt like lightning in a bottle—equal parts mystery box, character study, and slow-burn horror. The first season is still one of my favorite first seasons of all time. But three seasons in, it’s clear that the show’s early promise has unraveled. I was holding out hope halfway through Season 3 that it might still course correct after an uneven start. Now, having seen all ten episodes, I can no longer live in denial: the show that once had me hooked is now barely recognizable.
There are still glimpses of what made Yellowjackets great—the eerie tone, the psychological tension, the shifting loyalties of young female relationships. But those strengths are increasingly buried under incoherent plotting and bizarre character choices. Storylines are dropped without resolution, major decisions feel unearned, and the show’s once-tight pacing has been replaced with meandering subplots that go nowhere. Even the supernatural ambiguity that used to keep things compelling now feels like a crutch for inconsistent storytelling.
More than anything, this season just doesn’t make sense, and not in the fun, twisty way of a show playing the long game, but in the way of a series that’s lost control of its narrative. The emotional throughlines have frayed, the stakes feel lower despite higher body counts, and the character arcs that once grounded the chaos now feel like afterthoughts. It’s a frustrating fall from grace, especially for a show that once felt so fresh. I wanted to believe there was still a plan. But at this point, it feels like Yellowjackets is just churning out episodes with no real idea of where it’s going.
